Being a family photographer is a true privilege. Just as I feel so honored to capture couples, I feel that in a way, I am a family photographer through and through…after all, an engagement session or a wedding shoot is really just a family shoot at the earliest stages! I love watching families begin, grow, and learn how to go through life together. This beautiful group was so fun to spend the day with, and their children were wonderfully behaved and smiley. Tristan and Hilary have been together for four years, and married for one. They are parents to Kayleigh, who is nine, and Nathan, who is seven years old. Being parents is a very busy gig, but they each make time to pursue their own hobbies and interests; Hilary loves roller derby, and Tristan enjoys working with Volkswagen busses. As a family, they love being active and outdoors, especially when hiking, swimming, and playing at their local parks. “Something we have learned as parents is that sometimes, it is best to let your children struggle, because they gain confidence in doing things by themselves”, explains mom, “Another thing we have learned is to always try to make time to have fun together as a family, and to of course instill in our children to be kind to others.”
I think every mom who books with me always has a little curiosity (okay, maybe anxiety), over their children’s antics during a session. I hope that Hilary’s slight fears were put to rest, because her children were sweet and lovely, and the session went so well. I was delighted to give them a little sneak peek of their session on my camera, and the kiddos loved that. “Even though our kids got a little restless, Marie took the time with them and told jokes to keep them occupied”, added mom, “I feel she really captured our family’s vibe, and I loved the final product so much. we chose her because she captures who we really are, what we want, and makes sure we are pleased with the end result. I love her use of natural light and the desert landscapes, and she is just an all-around rad person!”
I am grateful for those kind words, and would love to speak with you about booking your own family session soon!
