Meet Alexis with Alexis Grace Florals
Last week I had the privilege to sit down with Alexis and talk about her business; Alexis Grace Florals. She is one of my go-to wedding florists in town and is always so much fun to work with! I think we were laughing during the whole ‘interview’. 😉 She is one of my favorite people and I recommend her to everyone. If you want an amazing florist, than check her out!
You can find her on the following social media platforms:
For my Vendor Spotlights, I ask a couple questions about wedding days and the planning process to help brides get to know their vendor both professionally and personally. Here is what Alexis has to say!
What was your dream job growing up?
My dream job was being an interior designer. I went to school for it for a while, I went to Pima. It was harder than I thought. I just thought it would be fun to decorate houses but it’s hard and you have to work with contractors and all that stuff. I had a job at an interior design shop here in town and he did silk flower arranging so that’s kind of what got me into this field. So after I worked with him for about a year, I then decided to move up to Portland, Oregon and go to a floral design institute.
Why did you decide to start a business?
(She totally answered this before I even asked it!)
Working with him [her mentor], he is so good at what he does! He would teach me his tips and tricks. I realized that college wasn’t for me so I started researching floral schools and getting certified. That’s when I packed everything up and drove up to Portland, Oregon and did the floral design institute up there. I did the Basic Program, Advanced Program and the Wedding Program. After completing the program, I came back down here and I got a job with Safeway in the floral department and managed the floral department for 5 years and then wanted to go off on my own.
When and how did you get into the wedding industry?
Working in the floral department and doing Valentines Days and Mothers Days, they are so crazy and so hectic. It kind of takes the enjoyment out of doing flowers. So I like weddings because yes, they can be stressful but brides are so happy and that makes it all worth it. Making them happy and being a part of their big day.
Where are you based and where do you meet with clients?
I am based in Tucson, Arizona. I get a lot of referrals from Phoenix so I will kind of travel all over and do weddings, just because I started the business there and then moved down here. I do all of the floral arrangements out of my studio here. I will meet with clients wherever is easiest for them, if they want to do a Starbucks and grab a cup of coffee or Whole Foods (which is where I actually met her! Ha ha), whatever is easiest for them.
What is your favorite part of a wedding day/event day?
I’ll always deliver what I do. I really enjoy going to the wedding venue and looking at how it all turned out and setting everything up. I think my favorite part is delivering the bouquets and boutonnieres. Bouquets, just because I like to see the brides face light up and to make sure she’s happy and it’s what she wanted. Boutonnieres, I like going into the guy’s room and seeing how nervous they are and every time I pin them there’s always one groomsman that’s like “Oh! You got me!”. But that’s my favorite part about it.
Describe your favorite type of client.
I feel like my age range, there are so many young couples who are getting married that have these really cool trendy ideas. Finding their ideas on Pinterest and turning it into their own unique wedding. A very modern, trendy couple, that’s what I love.
What makes you different at what you do?
I would say being this young in what I do. There’s a lot of old, traditional florists here in town that have their very traditional ways and I try and think out of the box and come up with new and interesting ideas.
What do you love most about weddings?
I like to get to know the couple when I first met them. I like to hear how long they’ve been dating, how they met, and their engagement story. I think that’s my favorite because of all the different engagement stories you hear. Them explaining what they want their wedding to be and reflecting them. I love finding out their story and getting to know them.
Your favorite celebrities and why?
I had a crush on Ben Affleck growing up and my favorite movie was Pearl Harbor. He was so dreamy in that movie and I would watch it over and over again. Especially in that uniform.
If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?
Greece. That’s my dream destination because it’s so pretty in pictures. I’ve always wanted to go.
Also, she has the cutest sweetest dog ever. Her name is Ella <3 How adorable is she?
A big thank you to Alexis and Alexis Grace Florals for participating in our vendor spotlight!
