Vendor Spotlight: Tanque Verde Guest Ranch

Meet Sarah with Tanque Verde Guest Ranch

I recently had the privilege of meeting with Sarah at the gorgeous wedding venue called Tanque Verde Guest Ranch. Someone else you might speak to at TVGR is Mary. Mary is the catering manager so you will see her name on the website and on brochures but Sarah and Mary both work together to help make weddings run smoothly and cohesively. The venue is located at the end of Speedway at the base of Tanque Verde Canyon. The mountain views and abundant cacti make this place the perfect getaway in the city.

You can find this venue on the following social media platforms:

For my Vendor Spotlights, I ask a couple questions about wedding days and the planning process to help brides get to know their vendor both professionally and personally. Here is what Sarah has to say!

How long have you been working at this venue?

I’ve been here since March of 2015 and Mary has been here since June of 2014.

What is the history about your venue?

The ranch has been here since 1868. It’s the first privately owned business in Tucson. It used to be a working cattle ranch and now it is an all-inclusive resort. As far as weddings, we have been doing weddings prior to both Mary and I coming here. It used to be that in order to be on property you had to be staying here as a guest but that’s no longer the case. Now you can host events; you can come out for breakfast, lunch or dinner; you can come out and do a horseback ride and not have to be a guest of the ranch. Cactus view was built 2 years ago and that’s where most of our wedding ceremonies take place.

What differentiates you from other businesses in your field?

We are a dude ranch. We are authentic to Tucson. We have the rustic feel that people are looking for but also a resort. So we have the guest rooms for their guests and it’s not just a typical hotel with a ballroom. We have a lot of outdoor locations. We don’t have any TV’s in our guest rooms, this encourages everyone to come out and mingle. Two families becoming one and meeting each other. It’s just a really great property to get everybody together.

What does a typical wedding day look like for you?

Mary and I we do the extra décor that the bride and groom have provided us with. Things they want to use to personalize the location. We do that ourselves because we have discussed with them on how they want it to look. We observe and make sure that everything is being set up according to plan. When the wedding starts, Mary and I coordinate the ceremony. We make sure that everything goes like the rehearsal dinner. We make sure the margaritas are being butler passed, that the hor d’oeuvres are being passed. We keep everything to time from cocktail hour, to dinner, to toasts and first dance. We don’t really leave until the formality of everything is done and it is party time and the bride and groom don’t care about us anymore, ha ha!

What would you say is a bride’s favorite thing about your venue?

What we have had comments on the most is that the love the location. They love that they can choose a location for ceremony, they can choose a location for cocktail hour, and a location for dinner. They also like that Mary and I are kind of like their wedding planners that they didn’t have to pay for because it’s kind of included. They also love the sunset photos. There are lots of great spots for sunset photos around the property and we get a lot of comments on that as well.

What is your favorite part of the event or wedding day?

This is a no brainer. My favorite part is when I’m bringing the bride down from the staging room and she comes out the doors to meet her father. Hands down my favorite part!

What would be your dream celebrity to host an event for?

Channing Tatum. I would pick him not only for his looks but I actually really like his wife and I like how down to earth they are. They just seem like so much fun! That would’ve been an awesome wedding to put on.

If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?

St. Lucia in the Caribbean. It’s a bucket list item of mine. You stay in a beach side bungalow and just be in a bathing suit for 7 days. An all-inclusive stay and you just beach.
