When it comes to portrait photography, the word “cost” is often one of the first things that comes up in a discussion. It can be daunting to choose a photographer that fits both your budget, and your vision, and I want to chime in here to talk about why portraits are such a large and meaningful investment. Photographers often use the word “investment” instead of cost, because it is more representative of what you’re actually paying for: when you book a custom photo session, you’re paying for photos that will be laughed over and enjoyed at family reunions. Your images will fill the pages of family albums and scrapbooks, and litter the hallways of your home with joy. You will look back with fondness on your wedding day or an engagement season, and remember the way it felt. You’re paying for the wide-eyed wonder of your children as they gently run their fingers over Mom and Dad and their siblings. It’s an investment of the heart.
Speaking of the heart, I loved working with these two, who were so very much in love! Meet Devon and Justin, who met up with me on a cloudy day in Papago Park in Phoenix. Although we were chasing the light with an overcast day, the park provided a stunning backdrop to this recently engaged couple. As one of my favorite spots to shoot, Papago Park also provides ample nooks and crannies that surprise me every time I visit; the hiking trails, and sandstone buttes seem to go on forever. Congratulations to Devon and Justin!
